Jo Morales' Story...

Jo's progress through 2 rotations and winning a Colorado Springs Contest

I've had an issue with my weight for as long as I can remember. Most people would say I looked fine, but I didn't feel good about the way I looked. I exercised at least four times a week - lifting weights and doing some form of cardio for about an hour at a time. My weight stayed pretty stable for many years but I always felt like I was just one step ahead; if I stopped exercising, I would balloon up beyond control. My eating habits were horrible. My idea of "healthy" eating consisted of two meals a day - breakfast and lunch; no dinner because I was convinced I couldn't eat after 6 p.m. Of course, I ended up munching all night long on junk because I was hungry. I averaged about 1400 calories a day.

I became acquainted with Bart Hanks and the concepts taught in the Personal Food Analyst (PFA) in March 1999. After an initial diet analysis to get a baseline for my caloric intake and protein, carbs & fat ratios, Bart & I began the process of increasing my calories in very specific ratios to meet my goal of losing body fat. I had been eating so little for such a long time and struggling to maintain my weight, I was a little scared about increasing my calories. But Bart explained to me that my metabolism had become less efficient because of so few calories and by increasing my calories I would improve my metabolism and its fat burning mechanism. Over a two-month period I worked to get my calories up to 2600 - gaining seven pounds in the process. I hated the way I felt but I had faith in the process. Finally, I entered Phase II, the weight loss phase - the Rotation Dieting phase. I should actually say this was the fat loss phase, because as I learned the scale only provides a number; it does not tell the composition of that number - lean muscle mass to fat. My goal was to lose two pounds per week; during a four-week period the number on the scale never changed but my body fat was decreasing! It was absolutely amazing. After 20 weeks, I went from 124 lbs and 24.8% body fat to 109 lbs and 12.5% body fat.

This whole process showed me many things. It showed me that I could make a change to my body and that I had the discipline and perseverance to accomplish anything I set my mind to. I also made a lot of friends, ones without whose support I couldn't have accomplished what I did & ones who complement my new way of life. I can't say enough about what it did for my self-esteem. After taking a break I started a second diet but with the goal of competing in my first bodybuilding competition - something I had always wanted to do. I won three first place trophies and two overalls in the 2001 Southern Colorado Bodybuilding Competition. I'm now beginning my third diet and planning to participate in another competition in May 2002. I could never have done this or would have even considered doing this prior to meeting Bart Hanks and the methods taught by the PFA. I wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone needing to make changes, not only physically, but also emotionally.
